VALENCIA COUNTRY CLUB
🇺🇸 Valencia, CA, USA
Designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr.

Valencia Country Club sits in the Santa Clarita Valley north of Los Angeles, designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr. and opened in 1965. The course occupies rolling terrain characteristic of Southern California's inland valleys, where the landscape transitions from coastal influences to drier, more open hillsides. Jones routed the layout to incorporate natural elevation changes and arroyos, creating a parkland setting enhanced by mature trees that have developed over the decades since opening.
The design reflects Jones's mid-career principles: strategic bunkering, large greens with distinct internal contours, and forced carries that reward precise shot-making. Water features appear on several holes, typical of Jones's approach to adding both visual definition and tactical challenge. The layout measures over 7,000 yards from the championship tees, providing length appropriate to modern equipment while maintaining playability from forward positions.
Valencia Country Club operates as a private facility serving the Santa Clarita community. The club has hosted regional amateur competitions and qualifiers over the years, contributing to Southern California's dense network of tournament venues. The course remains a representative example of Jones's work during a prolific period when he shaped numerous courses across California, balancing the state's favorable climate with design features that test skilled players while accommodating recreational rounds.
Reviews
One of the few Robert Trent Jones SR courses in the west coast recently renovated . I enjoyed it and would recommend it. Tough par 3’s with carries over water and contoured greens and lots of bunkers. 18th hole is a long and weird. Long 3 shot par 5 that snakes up the hill one of the tougher 3rd shots into a par 5 I’ve faced. Nice patio overlooking 1 and 18 to have a post round drink
The definition of a "one and done" golf course. Some of the most criminally poor bunkering I've seen in my 40+ years playing.
