Vale da Pinta at Vale da Pinta - Pestana Golf Resort

Vale da Pinta forms part of the Pestana Golf Resort complex in the Algarve's central region near Lagoa, approximately midway between the resort towns of Carvoeiro and Portimão. American architect Ron Fream designed the course in the early 1990s during a period of significant golf development across southern Portugal. The layout occupies gently rolling terrain characteristic of the Algarve interior, moving through groves of carob, almond, and olive trees that provide natural definition and a distinctly Mediterranean atmosphere.

The routing takes advantage of the property's modest elevation changes, with several holes playing across small valleys and others positioned along ridgelines that offer views toward the Atlantic coastline in the distance. Water features appear on multiple holes, integrated into the design to add strategic interest on a landscape that lacks dramatic natural contours. Fream's design emphasizes playability for resort guests while incorporating enough variety in hole lengths and angles to maintain interest across the round.

Vale da Pinta operates alongside its sister course Gramacho within the Pestana portfolio, and the two layouts share practice facilities and clubhouse amenities. The course serves primarily as a destination for European golf tourists visiting the Algarve, which has established itself as one of the continent's most concentrated golf regions. The inland setting provides a contrast to the more exposed clifftop courses along the Algarve coast, with the tree-lined corridors offering shelter from coastal winds that can affect play at seaside venues.
