UNIVERSITY OF MICHIGAN GOLF CLUB
🇺🇸 Ann Arbor, MI, USA
Designed by Alister Mackenzie, Arthur Hills

Few university courses can claim to have fostered a generation of Wolverines alongside honing their golf swings quite like the University of Michigan Golf Course. Nestled on the outskirts of Ann Arbor, the classic parkland layout offers a gentle, rolling terrain defined by mature trees and strategic bunkering, where tight lies and doglegs favor a calculated, thoughtful approach rather than brute force. The course is known for its subtle defense and is very walkable.
Designed by legendary architect Alister MacKenzie in the late 1920s, the University of Michigan Golf Course remains a testament to his genius. While retaining MacKenzie's original vision, subtle enhancements over the years have ensured its continued relevance for modern players. Its most notable feature is its design and history, not necessarily its modern features - and its play-ability.
The club embodies the spirit of the University. Membership is composed largely of faculty, staff, alumni, and students - creating a unique atmosphere. It is a place to enjoy the company of friends and colleagues as much as the challenge of the course. And while the course may not be nationally renowned, it is a deeply cherished golfing institution, woven into the fabric of the University of Michigan and the lives of those connected to it.
Reviews
Everything breaks to State Street…another Dr. MacKenzie gem…the best asset for students (myself included) on campus. Hit your drive on 3 down fairway 4 like Jack did!
A must play if you are a Makenzie fanatic. Overall a really quality golf course for a good price. As a non-UM alumni, I did the Makenzie experience which was $175/person. This also came with a meal voucher and a UM bag tag which was cool Overall enjoyed the course and felt it was pretty challenging. I would’ve liked another crack at it but worth it if you are in the area
Dad’s an Alumni and never miss the chance to play it when I’m in town. Nothing to say here other than a terrific effort by the good doctor that has been dummied down over the years. A shame they use it as a parking lot too. Still great conditions and for the middle of AA, can’t beat it. Go Blue
