Tyneside Golf Club sits in Ryton, a village on the western edge of the Tyne and Wear conurbation, approximately six miles from Newcastle city center. The course occupies elevated ground above the River Tyne valley, offering views across the surrounding Northumberland countryside. Harry S. Colt designed the layout during the early twentieth century, a period when he was establishing his reputation as one of Britain's leading golf architects. The course reflects Colt's characteristic attention to strategic routing and his ability to work sympathetically with natural terrain.

The land features rolling topography with mature woodland defining several holes. Colt routed the course to take advantage of the elevation changes and natural contours, creating a variety of hole shapes and playing angles. The design incorporates heathland characteristics in places, with heather and gorse appearing alongside traditional parkland elements of established trees and well-defined fairways. Several holes play across or along slopes, requiring golfers to manage uneven lies and consider how the ground will affect ball movement.

Tyneside serves a membership drawn largely from the Newcastle area and the surrounding towns of Tyne and Wear.
