TULLYMORE GOLF RESORT
🇺🇸 Stanwood, MI, USA
Designed by Jim Engh
Tullymore Golf Resort in Stanwood, Michigan, opened in 2001 as the first Michigan design by Colorado-based architect Jim Engh. The course occupies rolling terrain in the northern Lower Peninsula, roughly twenty miles northeast of Grand Rapids, where the landscape transitions from agricultural flatlands to more varied topography characteristic of the region's glacial heritage. Engh routed the course through a mix of hardwood forests, wetlands, and open meadows, incorporating the natural elevation changes and creating dramatic visual contrasts between holes.
The design reflects Engh's signature style of bold, sculptural bunkering and strategic risk-reward options. Fairways often present multiple routes to the green, with aggressive lines offering shorter approaches but requiring carries over hazards or navigating severe contours. The bunker complexes feature steep faces and irregular shapes that stand out against the surrounding vegetation. Several holes play along or across wetland areas, while others move through dense tree corridors that frame the playing corridors tightly.
Tullymore operates as a public-access resort facility, part of a larger development that includes residential properties and lodging. The course has appeared on various regional and national rankings of public courses since its opening. The property emphasizes walkability despite the terrain, with transitions between holes generally manageable. The name "Tullymore" references Irish heritage, though the course design itself draws more directly from Engh's western American influences than from traditional links golf.
Reviews
Incredible routing, conditions were ok but not worth for the price. Tough course
Phenomenal course but hard to justify $200 green fees
If you like parkland courses you’ll love Tullymore. Each hole is it own private golf course.
this course is great but do not understand their price point whatsoever. charging $150-200 is genuinely absurd. really enjoyed the course, it’s an enjoyable layout that challenges you to hit the right shot
Better than St Ives by a ton. More open off the tee but still challenging. Good greens
