Trump National Los Angeles is a testament to ambition, rising dramatically from the bluffs of Rancho Palos Verdes, a landscape once scarred by a landslide. Pete Dye's initial design, later refined, presents a bold, modern test of golf, defined by its length and sculpted undulations. The course's signature is arguably its strategic bunkering, visually striking against the Pacific backdrop, and demands thoughtful approaches rather than pure power. It is a course that often favors the player who can shape the ball, navigate doglegs, and manage the ever-present coastal winds.
The club, while not a traditional tournament venue, has nevertheless established itself as a presence in Southern California golf. Its setting overlooking the Pacific offers a unique ambiance, a stark contrast to the dense urban sprawl nearby. Stories circulate within the membership regarding the opulent clubhouse and its many amenities, offering a full-service experience for its members.
The allure of Trump National Los Angeles extends beyond the course itself. It's a place where membership is known to offer more than just golf; it's a statement. While not steeped in decades of championship history, it stands as a monument to a particular era of golf development: grand, ambitious, and unapologetically modern. The 18th hole’s waterfall and flowerbed lettering of the club’s name serve as a constant reminder of its unique identity.
Reviews
Good views mediocre course
Great course, amazing quality, but anything left or right of the fairway is typically OOB since you can’t navigate to the fairways over. Not rushing to come back here.
It's just a dreadful golf course. No politics. The course doesn't fit the land at all. Some truly dumb holes.
Course way too narrow AND the cart-path only restrictions are absurd. The views are incredible though
