TRUE BLUE GOLF PLANTATION
🇺🇸 Pawleys Island, SC, USA
Designed by Mike Strantz, Tyler Rae
True Blue, carved from the bones of a former indigo and rice plantation near Pawleys Island, isn't your typical South Carolina Lowcountry course; it's a bold statement of modern architecture and scale. Designed by the late Mike Strantz, the course, which opened in 1998, offers a stark contrast to the tighter, tree-lined layouts more common to the region.
True Blue is built on relatively flat, sandy terrain, but the immense fairways and sprawling waste bunkers evoke a rugged, almost otherworldly feel. It's a big golf course, playing long from the back tees, and favors a power fade. Generous landing areas are often contrasted by treacherous green complexes demanding creativity on the short game. Water hazards come into play on several holes, adding to the strategic challenge.
While True Blue hasn't hosted major professional championships, it has gained a reputation as a popular destination for amateur tournaments and golf groups. The course offers a stern but fair test of golf in a unique setting that has created a devoted local following who relish the Strantz design.
Reviews
Not as cool as Caledonia. Still a very nice course
Hard to imagine having more fun on a golf course. If you Like Mike Strantz designs you’ll love this. Huge greens great pin placements. Almost a completely different course each time you play it. The day we played it was raining and we had the course literally to ourselves so Can’t speak to normal pace of play. I don’t think you’d ever get tired of playing here
Course is awesome. Truly. But took 6.5 hours - 3 groups on each hole on the back. Staring groups on 1 and 10. Freaking sardine can. Ruined the fun.
The other Stranz in Pawleys is a bigger course than Caledonia. It’s a lot of fun and will challenge you throughout. Rounds are slow due to it being Myrtle Beach package play
Love this place. A Stranz. On the must-play list for anyone going to Myrtle.
Beautiful Strantz. The use of water and waste area made it challenging, but defiantly gettable. Only issue was at the time I was a 4.8 and my group consisted of an 18, a 25, and a 30+, so it took FOREVER.
