TRALEE GOLF CLUB
🇮🇪 Ardfert, Kerry, IE
Designed by Arnold Palmer

Tralee Golf Club, carved into the rugged coastline of County Kerry, Ireland, is more than just a golf course; it's a testament to the untamed beauty of the Irish landscape and the enduring spirit of the game. The first European course designed by Arnold Palmer, its dramatic dunesland and cliffside holes capture the imagination from the first tee. Wind is ever-present, shaping both the terrain and the strategy, requiring players to embrace creativity and adapt to the elements. Errant shots are sometimes forgiven, and sometimes swallowed by the ravenous seaside gorse.
Palmer’s original design, opened in 1984, blends seamlessly with the natural contours of the land. Later enhancements by Ed Seay further refined the experience, ensuring Tralee remains a challenging and rewarding test for golfers of all abilities. The front nine dances along the bluffs, while the back nine tumbles into an expansive linksland setting. The par-5 12th hole, known as "Ryan's Daughter" after the David Lean film shot nearby, epitomizes Tralee's captivating charm.
While it has not hosted major championships, Tralee has become a pilgrimage for golfers seeking an authentic Irish links experience. It stands as a beacon of raw, unapologetic golf. The members, a close-knit community of local enthusiasts, embrace the spirit of the game and extend a warm welcome to visitors. Stories of spirited matches in driving rain and celebratory pints in the clubhouse are woven into the fabric of Tralee.
Beyond the breathtaking views and demanding layout, Tralee Golf Club offers a sense of belonging, a connection to a place where the game is cherished and the spirit of Ireland thrives. And of course, one mustn't leave without savoring a bowl of their famous seafood chowder, a hearty reward after a day battling the elements.
Reviews
Bern awhile since i played here and club has done dome upgrades but i thought it was just a fantastic course from start to finish. Back 9 is fabulous with some great scenery.
The scenery carries this course. Extremely dramatic dunes make for thrilling shots. Too many holes feature a view with not much golfing interest on the ground. A better modern links than most other attempts.
One of the best back nines in golf. This place was alot of fun and ranked 3rd on my trip behind RCD/Adare.
Tralee is an unbelievable Irish Links that has some fantastic holes on both the front and back 9. The back 9 gets a lot of attention, but I thought the front was just as good! The par 5s and par 3s are the stars. Tralee is a must if you are doing a SW Ireland golf trip.
Scenery is hard to beat here. It is a brute of a course though if you get it on a windy day which of course it usually is. It’s a great course but I think if I was a member I’d get tired of being beaten up by it all of the time 😅.
