A-GA-MING GOLF RESORT
🇺🇸 Kewadin, MI, USA
Designed by Chick Harbert, Jerry Matthews

A-Ga-Ming Golf Resort's Torch course opened in 1971, designed by Chick Harbert, a PGA Tour professional who won seven tour events during the 1940s and 1950s, in collaboration with Jerry Matthews. The course takes its name from nearby Torch Lake, one of northern Michigan's glacially-formed inland lakes known for their clarity and depth. The property sits in the Grand Traverse region, an area that experienced significant golf development during the latter decades of the twentieth century as Michigan's northern Lower Peninsula became a popular destination for resort golf.
The routing occupies rolling terrain characteristic of the region's glacial topography, with elevation changes and stands of hardwood and pine framing the holes. The course measures over 6,800 yards from the back tees and features a traditional parkland layout that reflects the design sensibilities of its era, with tree-lined fairways and greens protected by bunkers. The terrain provides natural movement through the property, and several holes offer views across the surrounding countryside.
A-Ga-Ming operates as a semi-private resort facility, with the Torch course serving alongside the resort's Sundance course as part of a thirty-six-hole complex. The northern Michigan golf season typically runs from late spring through autumn, when the region's moderate summer temperatures and fall colors attract golfers from throughout the Midwest. The facility provides traditional resort amenities including lodging and dining for visitors exploring the Grand Traverse area's concentration of golf courses.
