Tiger's Eye Course
Big Cats Golf @ Ocean Ridge Plantation
About this course
Tiger's Eye occupies rolling, wooded terrain in the Ocean Ridge Plantation community near Ocean Isle Beach on North Carolina's southern coast. Designed by Tim Cate and opened in 2000, the course takes its name from the semiprecious stone and shares the Big Cats Golf collection with its sister courses Panther's Run and Lion's Paw. Cate routed the layout through natural elevation changes uncommon for coastal Carolina, incorporating dramatic vertical movement and dense stands of longleaf pine, live oak, and native vegetation. The design features bold bunkering, large undulating greens, and strategic use of the property's topography to create variety in shot values and visual interest. Several holes play along or across ravines and gullies, while elevated tees and greens provide sightlines over the forested landscape. Water hazards appear selectively throughout the routing. The course measures over 7,000 yards from the championship tees, though multiple tee boxes accommodate different skill levels. Tiger's Eye has earned recognition in regional and national course rankings since opening, drawing destination golfers to the Ocean Ridge complex. The Big Cats collection operates as a semi-private facility, offering public access alongside member play. The courses share practice facilities and a clubhouse that serves the three layouts. The area's mild climate supports year-round golf, and the plantation setting provides a residential golf community atmosphere distinct from the beachfront character of nearby Ocean Isle.
