THE GREENBRIER AMERICA'S RESORT
🇺🇸 White Sulphur Springs, WV, USA
Designed by Tom Fazio

The Snead course at The Greenbrier opened in 1994 as part of Tom Fazio's redesign work at the historic resort, replacing an earlier nine-hole layout. Named for Sam Snead, the legendary professional who served as the resort's head professional and touring ambassador for decades, the course honors the West Virginia native's long association with White Sulphur Springs. Fazio routed the layout across rolling Allegheny Mountain terrain, creating a parkland design that moves through mature hardwood forests and open meadows with significant elevation changes throughout the round.
The course plays as the most modern of The Greenbrier's three championship layouts, featuring Fazio's characteristic wide fairways, strategic bunkering, and large, contoured greens. Water comes into play on several holes, and the natural topography provides both dramatic downhill tee shots and demanding uphill approaches. The design emphasizes playability for resort guests while maintaining challenge from the back tees, with multiple teeing grounds accommodating different skill levels.
The Snead operates as part of The Greenbrier's comprehensive golf program, which includes the Old White TPC course and the Meadows course. The resort's golf facilities have hosted PGA Tour events and remain central to the property's identity as a golf destination. The course benefits from the same meticulous conditioning standards applied across the resort's grounds, and players enjoy access to The Greenbrier's full amenities, including its historic main hotel and extensive dining options.
