THE RUNNING Y RANCH RESORT
🇺🇸 Klamath Falls, OR, USA
Designed by Arnold Palmer, Ed Seay, Erik Larsen
The Running Y Ranch Resort golf course sits on the eastern edge of the Cascade Range near Klamath Falls in south-central Oregon. Arnold Palmer and Ed Seay designed the original layout, which opened in the late 1990s as part of a resort development on former ranch land. Erik Larsen later contributed to renovations and refinements. The course occupies rolling terrain with views toward the surrounding volcanic peaks and high-desert landscape characteristic of the Klamath Basin.
The routing takes advantage of natural elevation changes and incorporates wetlands, ponderosa pines, and native grasses into the playing corridors. Water features appear on several holes, reflecting the property's connection to spring-fed streams and marshlands that define the region's ecology. The design balances resort accessibility with strategic interest, offering multiple tee options to accommodate varying skill levels while presenting risk-reward decisions around greens and hazards.
The Running Y functions as the centerpiece amenity for its namesake resort, which includes lodging, dining, and conference facilities. The property attracts destination golfers exploring Oregon's diverse golf offerings beyond the more heavily trafficked coastal and Portland-area courses. The high-elevation setting means a relatively short season compared to lower-lying regions, with play typically concentrated from late spring through early fall when weather conditions in the Klamath Basin are most favorable.
Reviews
Beautiful course in amazing shape. Challenging course that is open enough on shorter drives but becomes more selective as the distance increases. Lots of elevation on quite a few holes and the fairways have lots of gentle undulation. Greens are tricky to read but roll true and firm. Wind will move directions depending on how the terrain funnels it about the course. Excellent course. I would highly recommend it.
