CABOT CITRUS FARMS
🇺🇸 Brooksville, FL, USA
Designed by Tom Fazio
Cabot Citrus Farms' The Roost is a bold reclamation project etched into Florida's sandy heartland, a defiant rebirth of a course once left for dead. This modern creation, reborn from a struggling predecessor, now offers an unexpectedly rugged and undulating playing field, carved out of what was once typical, flat Florida citrus land. Wide fairways encourage aggressive play off the tee, but wayward shots find themselves swallowed by the natural scrub that defines this region, making recovery a constant consideration. Doglegs and strategically placed bunkers force strategic choices, rewarding thoughtful approaches as much as brute strength.
The reimagining of The Roost is the work of Kyle Franz, known for his minimalist approach that highlights the natural landscape. The course embraces the area's native vegetation, creating a visually striking contrast to the manicured conditions typically found in Florida golf. While it may not host major championships, its unique character has quickly garnered attention, making it a destination for golfers seeking an experience beyond the ordinary.
The Roost's allure isn't just in its challenging layout, but also in its commitment to creating a relaxed and inviting atmosphere. The club prides itself on fostering a community of passionate golfers who appreciate the game's traditions without taking themselves too seriously. On any given day, expect lively banter on the patio and cold beverages that flow freely as players debate the day's triumphs and misfortunes. A particular point of pride is the club's commitment to its locally sourced menu, highlighted by its smoked fish dip, a staple that embodies the area's down-to-earth charm.
Reviews
All around a really good golf course. Definitely can shoot well here. All course amenities were incredible also.
Fun course but our full group of 10 guys preferred Karoo. If I have 10 rounds to play at Citrus Farms, I’m probably doing 3 at Roost and 7 at Karoo. Caddies are awesome, and property is amazing.
Roost nails the essence of old Florida as the designers intended. Enjoyable walk and memorable holes. Saw the infamous Osceola turkeys roaming #16. Course was in fantastic condition. Forgiving fairways are largely offset by a handful of blind approaches and challenging green complexes. Awesome track.
This is the course to play at Cabot Citrus Farms. Unreal walk, surrounded by oaks covered in Spanish Moss. Greens are just as tricky as Karoo, but in a much more subtle way. Almost every hole on the course is memorable. Was lucky enough to get out at 7:36 for the first tee time with my dad and we had the entire place to ourselves.
