THE RIDGE AT CASTLE PINES NORTH
🇺🇸 Castle Rock, CO, USA
Designed by Tom Weiskopf
The Ridge at Castle Pines North is a Tom Weiskopf design that opened in the late 1990s in Castle Rock, Colorado, positioned along the Front Range south of Denver. The course occupies rolling terrain characteristic of the transition zone between the Great Plains and the Rocky Mountains, with elevation changes and views toward Pikes Peak and the Continental Divide. Weiskopf, who grew up in Ohio but spent significant time in Colorado and the Mountain West, brought his understanding of high-altitude conditions and dramatic topography to the routing.
The layout moves across ridgelines and through natural ravines, incorporating native grasses, scrub oak, and rock outcroppings into the playing corridors. Elevation shifts affect both strategy and club selection, as shots at roughly 6,400 feet above sea level carry farther in the thinner air. Weiskopf's design philosophy emphasizes visual clarity and strategic options rather than penal hazards, and The Ridge reflects that approach with wide fairways that reward positioning and greens that demand thoughtful approach angles.
The course serves a private membership and operates as part of the broader Castle Pines North residential community, which developed during the 1990s expansion of the southern Denver metropolitan area. The Ridge provides a daily-play complement to the more exclusive Castle Pines Golf Club, which hosted PGA Tour events and sits nearby. The setting offers a combination of mountain scenery and accessible Front Range golf, typical of Colorado courses built during the region's growth period.
Reviews
Good but expensive for what it is
It’s obviously very pretty, but as a golf course there are a lot better options for the price. Just not my cup of tea
You're better off driving another 10 minutes further south to play Plum Creek or 20 minutes further south to play Bear Dance.
