THE PENINSULA CLUB
🇺🇸 Cornelius, NC, USA
Designed by Greg Muirhead, Rees Jones

The Peninsula Club sits on a wooded site along the shores of Lake Norman in Cornelius, North Carolina, approximately twenty miles north of Charlotte. Rees Jones designed the course with Greg Muirhead, creating a layout that navigates rolling terrain and incorporates the lake as both a visual and strategic element on several holes. The property's natural topography and mature hardwoods provide definition and character throughout the routing.
Jones, known for his work on U.S. Open venues and course restorations, brought his trademark emphasis on strategic bunkering and green complexes that reward precise approach play. The design balances risk-reward opportunities with holes that allow multiple routes of play depending on skill level and conditions. Lake Norman comes into view on multiple occasions, most notably on holes where the water influences club selection and shot shape.
The Peninsula Club operates as a private facility serving the Lake Norman area's residential community. The club offers a traditional country club environment with golf as the central amenity, complemented by dining and social programs typical of private clubs in the Charlotte region. The course provides a well-maintained playing experience within a setting that reflects the character of North Carolina's Piedmont lake country, with elevation changes and tree-lined fairways defining the visual and strategic framework of the round.
