The Orchard at The Orchard Golf & Country Club

The Orchard Golf & Country Club sits in the foothills of northeast Georgia near Clarkesville, a region where the Appalachian terrain begins its rise from the Piedmont. Dan Maples designed the course, bringing his characteristic approach to mountain and transitional landscapes—routing that works with natural elevation changes and incorporates wooded corridors, rock outcroppings, and water features where the topography allows. Maples, who built numerous courses across the Carolinas and Georgia during the latter decades of the twentieth century, typically emphasized playability alongside strategic interest, creating layouts accessible to a range of skill levels while preserving the character of the land.

The course occupies rolling, forested property with hardwoods and pines framing fairways. Elevation shifts provide variety in shot-making and perspective, with some holes playing uphill or downhill and others moving through relatively level stretches. Water comes into play on several holes, and the design incorporates natural rock formations and native vegetation to define playing corridors and hazards. The layout reflects the regional style common to North Georgia mountain courses, where designers balance the drama of terrain with practical considerations for maintenance and playability.

The Orchard operates as a private country club serving members from the surrounding area and seasonal residents drawn to the north Georgia mountains. The club offers amenities typical of the region's residential golf communities, including dining and social facilities that complement the golf experience.
