PHOENIX GOLF & COUNTRY CLUB
🇹🇭 Huayyai, Chonburi, TH
Designed by Denis Griffiths
The Mountain course at Phoenix Golf & Country Club occupies rolling terrain in Huayyai, a district in Chonburi Province roughly 20 kilometers inland from Pattaya on Thailand's eastern seaboard. Designed by Denis Griffiths and opened in the early 1990s, the layout takes its name from the pronounced elevation changes that define the property. The routing moves through a landscape of steep hills and valleys, with several holes playing significantly uphill or downhill and offering views across the surrounding countryside toward distant mountain ranges.
Griffiths routed the course to emphasize the natural topography, creating dramatic tee shots and approach angles that require careful club selection and course management. The elevation shifts produce both blind shots and elevated greens, and the design incorporates water hazards and bunkering that come into play on risk-reward holes. The terrain can make walking challenging, and distances can be deceptive given the changes in altitude throughout the round.
Phoenix Golf & Country Club operates multiple courses on the property and has served as a venue for professional tournaments on the Asian Tour and regional circuits. The facility caters to both international visitors drawn to the Pattaya golf corridor and local members. The Mountain course remains one of the more physically demanding layouts in the area, offering a contrast to flatter resort courses along the coast.
