PGA National Resort

The Match is one of five championship courses at PGA National Resort in Palm Beach Gardens, a facility that has served as a significant tournament venue and headquarters for the PGA of America for decades. The course was designed by Tom Fazio and opened in 1984, part of the resort's expansion to complement the more famous Champion Course. The layout occupies relatively flat terrain typical of South Florida, with water hazards and strategic bunkering defining the challenge rather than elevation change. The routing incorporates lakes and wetlands throughout, requiring golfers to navigate forced carries and manage risk on approach shots. Fazio's design emphasizes playability for resort guests while maintaining enough length and hazard placement to test accomplished players. The course features Bermuda grass fairways and greens, with the subtropical climate allowing year-round play. Palm trees and native vegetation frame many holes, providing definition and a sense of enclosure despite the open topography. PGA National Resort has hosted numerous professional events over the years, most notably the PGA Championship in 1983 and 1987, and currently hosts The Honda Classic on the PGA Tour, though these events take place on the Champion Course rather than The Match. The resort attracts a mix of destination golfers, convention groups, and members who have access to all five courses.
