The Lemuria Championship at Constance Lemuria

The Lemuria Championship occupies a distinctive position as the only 18-hole championship golf course in the Seychelles archipelago. Designed by South African architect Rodney Wright and opened in the early 2000s as part of the Constance Lemuria resort on Praslin, the second-largest island in the Seychelles, the course navigates terrain that differs markedly from typical tropical resort layouts. The routing works through and around dramatic granite rock formations, indigenous Takamaka trees, and natural wetlands, with several holes running along or near the coastline of Anse Kerlan.

The layout measures approximately 6,000 yards from the championship tees and plays as a par 70. The design incorporates the island's distinctive topography, with elevation changes and the presence of massive granite boulders—characteristic of the Seychelles landscape—creating both visual drama and strategic interest. Several holes require carries over wetland areas or careful navigation around the rock outcroppings. The course occupies a relatively compact footprint given the constraints of the island setting, yet Wright's routing provides variety in hole direction and character.

The Lemuria serves primarily resort guests at Constance Lemuria, though outside play is available. The course represents a rare opportunity for golf in the Indian Ocean island nation, where the sport has limited presence compared to other tropical destinations. Maintenance and conditioning face the challenges typical of remote island courses in humid tropical climates, but the setting amid native vegetation and granite formations offers a playing experience distinct from conventional resort designs.
