GIANTS RIDGE GOLF & SKI RESORT
🇺🇸 Biwabik, MN, USA
Designed by Jeff Brauer, Lanny Wadkins
The Legend at Giants Ridge opened in 1997 as the second of two championship courses at this northern Minnesota resort, designed by Jeff Brauer in collaboration with touring professional Lanny Wadkins. The course occupies rolling, forested terrain in the Iron Range region near Biwabik, approximately an hour north of Duluth. The property features significant elevation changes and dense stands of pine, birch, and aspen that define the playing corridors and frame views across the surrounding wilderness.
The routing makes extensive use of the natural topography, with holes rising and falling through the wooded landscape. Several holes play along ridgelines or drop dramatically from elevated tees, while others occupy lower ground where wetlands and natural water features come into play. The design emphasizes strategic options from the tee and rewards accurate iron play to greens that incorporate the site's natural contours. Rock outcroppings and native grasses appear throughout, reinforcing the course's connection to the region's mining heritage and boreal forest character.
The Legend has earned recognition in various regional and national rankings since opening, helping establish Giants Ridge as a public golf destination in Minnesota's Arrowhead region. The resort operates both The Legend and the earlier Quarry course, with lodging and year-round recreational amenities including skiing. The course remains accessible to daily-fee players and attracts golfers seeking northern Minnesota's distinctive landscape and cooler summer conditions.
