THE LEDGES COUNTRY CLUB
🇺🇸 Huntsville, AL, USA
Designed by Dana Fry, Dr. Michael Hurdzan

The Ledges Country Club sits atop Monte Sano Mountain in Huntsville, Alabama, where Dr. Michael Hurdzan and Dana Fry routed eighteen holes across dramatic elevation changes and natural rock outcroppings. Opened in the late 1990s, the course takes its name from the limestone ledges and bluffs that define the property, with holes playing along ridgelines and through wooded valleys at elevations that provide views across the Tennessee Valley. The design works with the rugged topography rather than against it, incorporating the stone formations into the playing corridors and green complexes.
The routing moves through distinct sections of the mountain terrain, with several holes playing across significant grade changes and others following more level ground along the plateau. The rock ledges appear throughout the round as both visual features and strategic elements, framing landing areas and greenside approaches. The natural setting includes mature hardwoods and native vegetation that frame the holes while the elevation creates playing conditions somewhat different from the flatter courses common in much of northern Alabama.
The Ledges serves as a private club for the Huntsville area, drawing membership from the city's professional and business community. The course represents Hurdzan and Fry's approach to mountain golf design in the Southeast, where the emphasis falls on routing that respects natural contours and incorporates indigenous rock and vegetation into the golf experience.
Reviews
I was underwhelmed. Perched above Huntsville, the track did not live up to the hype. Nothing particularly negative just didn’t wow me with any particularly well designed or great holes.
