BARCELO BAVARO GOLF
🇩🇴 Punta Cana, La Altagracia, DO
Designed by P. B. Dye

The Lakes at Barceló Bávaro Golf, carved into the heart of Punta Cana's resort haven, is an exercise in thoughtful redirection. Originally conceived to accommodate sun-seekers as much as golfers, the course is not a landmark of championship pedigree, but rather a cleverly designed diversion amid the Dominican Republic's famed beaches.
Architect P.B. Dye subtly sculpted this inland course, taking the flat, fertile landscape and introducing rolling hills, strategically placed water hazards, and expansive bunkers that lend definition to the holes. The course plays longer than its yardage suggests, with prevailing trade winds and a layout that rewards a controlled ball flight over brute force. While generous fairways offer some comfort, approaches demand accuracy to avoid the well-guarded greens.
The club, though not steeped in formal tournament lore, thrives on the relaxed camaraderie of its vacationing players and local enthusiasts. Post-round, conversations often revolve around the day's best shots and the comparative merits of Dominican cigars, enjoyed with a Presidente beer, a ritual as much a part of the Bávaro golfing experience as the swing itself.
