The Dunes at Riverdale is a testament to Colorado’s capacity for unexpected landscapes, rising from the plains of Brighton with an almost defiant links-style character. Sculpted in the late 20th century, the course presents a rugged, wind-swept playing field where native grasses define tight fairways and cunningly placed bunkers penalize wayward shots. This is not a course for the faint of heart. Favors aggressive players who can shape their shots in the face of unpredictable gusts. Expect doglegs, blind approaches, and greens that demand creativity with the putter.
Originally crafted by Dick Phelps, Riverdale challenges golfers with its strategic design that rewards thoughtful play over brute strength. The prevailing winds off the plains add another layer of complexity. While not a regular stop on any major tour, The Dunes has fostered a fiercely loyal local following who appreciate its demanding layout. The course fosters a competitive but lighthearted atmosphere, exemplified by its robust member tournaments and casual weekend games.
Riverdale's appeal extends beyond the course itself. The club is known for its laid-back atmosphere and hearty post-round meals. Many a match is settled over plates of their famous green chili, a local favorite. It's a place where golf is enjoyed without pretense.
Reviews
Super fun. One of the best tracks in the state. In good shape, well thought out holes, walkable, and strategic
Paid $68 for this course. Really incredible value for a Pete Dye course. Greens were aerated 10 days before I played and were in great shape for that. For as much play as this course gets really great shape. Probably one of the best values I have ever played. Would recommend.
