PINEHURST RESORT & COUNTRY CLUB
🇺🇸 Pinehurst, NC, USA
Designed by Gil Hanse
Pinehurst's revolutionary par-3 course, The Cradle, honors the resort's founding father of American golf, James Barber, and his forward-thinking vision that transformed the sleepy Carolina village into the "Home of American Golf." This Gil Hanse design, etched onto the same hallowed ground where Ross crafted his masterpieces, spans a mere 789 yards, a refreshing embrace of the game's simpler joys.
Forget manicured perfection; The Cradle is a sandy canvas of exposed hardpan and native wiregrass, a playful rebellion against modern course design. Short irons and creative bump-and-runs are the weapons of choice across the eleven-acre plot, while the omnipresent whoops and hollers of joyful golfers creates a contagious energy.
More than just a diversion, The Cradle has become a social hub at Pinehurst, often hosting post-round gatherings with music and drinks, fostering a relaxed atmosphere. The course has become known for both the camaraderie and the famed "Pinecone" cocktail, a refreshing blend of vodka, pineapple juice, and cranberry, perfectly embodying the spirit of Pinehurst and its commitment to celebrating the game.
Reviews
Expensive pitch and putt. Everything is off mats. Several holes that are less than 70 yards. Took 2 hours to finish 9 holes
Very fun par 3 course, moves fast, very cool greens
Half to play if you are anywhere in Pinehurst. Two clubs and a putter is really all you need. Hit the pine cone bar a few times too. Good for post full round or arrival day of a trip. Check out the putting course too
Not sure how you rank tee boxes since it was mats only
Play with 1 club
Fun Par 3 course!
Can’t have much more fun than 9+ on the cradle in the evening
