HAMMOCK BEACH RESORT
🇺🇸 Palm Coast, FL, USA
Designed by Tom Watson

The Conservatory at Hammock Beach Resort in Palm Coast, Florida, opened in 2000 as the property's original championship course. Designed by Tom Watson, the eight-time major champion, the layout reflects his playing experience on classic links courses while adapting those principles to the coastal Florida environment. The course occupies land along the Intracoastal Waterway north of Daytona Beach, where the terrain includes natural wetlands, mature oak hammocks, and stretches of native vegetation characteristic of Florida's northeast coast.
Watson's routing takes advantage of the property's varied topography and water features, with several holes playing along or near the Intracoastal. The design incorporates strategic bunkering and green complexes that reward thoughtful course management, consistent with Watson's competitive philosophy. Waste areas and native grasses frame many holes, requiring accuracy from the tee while offering recovery options for skilled players. The course measures over 7,000 yards from the championship tees and features multiple sets of tees to accommodate different skill levels.
As part of Hammock Beach Resort, The Conservatory serves both resort guests and members, functioning as a destination course within a larger hospitality property. The facility includes practice areas and clubhouse amenities typical of Florida resort golf. The course operates year-round, taking advantage of the region's mild winter climate that draws golfers from colder regions during the traditional off-season months.
Reviews
The tom Watson designed conservatory course at hammock beach is a true Florida hidden gem. Overshadowed by the ocean course, the inland course doesn’t boast the same word class views but instead leans on its strategic routing. The par 3s shine here especially the island par 3 on the front but the course is filled with engaging par 4s and testing par 5s. The 5 18th is a great risk reward finisher and the entire course feels like it was built for match play. Scorable while still testing, the conservatory will have you thinking on almost every shot. Every club in my bag was used and for half the price of the Ocean course this is the real gem of hammock beach. While not as linksy as a place like streamsong, Watson still gives the routing an open feel even with water lurking on nearly every hole. The bunkers + hardpan shine as much as the ocean course as deterrents but the options to approach each green are more ample. A shot makers paradise this course should be the #1 option in the hammock beach area.
