THE BUCKHORN GOLF COURSE
🇺🇸 Comfort, TX, USA
Designed by Art Schaupeter

The Buckhorn Golf Course sits in the Texas Hill Country near Comfort, a small town northwest of San Antonio known for its German heritage and limestone-studded landscape. Designed by Art Schaupeter, the course occupies terrain characteristic of the region: rolling hills, native grasses, live oak and juniper, and the rocky, well-drained soils that define this part of central Texas. The routing works with the natural elevation changes and the open, sometimes windswept character of Hill Country golf.
Schaupeter, a Texas-based architect active in the latter decades of the twentieth century, designed several courses across the state with an emphasis on playability and integration with existing topography. At The Buckhorn, the layout reflects this practical approach, offering a straightforward test that asks golfers to navigate the slopes and occasional doglegs shaped by the land. The course serves both local members and visitors exploring the scenic corridor between San Antonio and Fredericksburg.
The setting provides much of the appeal. Views extend across the surrounding hills, and the native vegetation frames holes without excessive grooming. The Buckhorn functions as a community course in a region where golf is often secondary to the landscape itself, offering a relaxed round in one of Texas's most distinctive geographic zones.
Reviews
Great course the driving range is amazing and course layout is challenging but really rewarding
Bias as this is where I learned golf but I love this little track. Easy to play. Friendly pro-shop. Greens are usually in good condition for the area. Prices aren’t too bad. Pace of pace can get slow like any public course. Overall, a fun option in the hill country.
