TEUGEGA COUNTRY CLUB
🇺🇸 Rome, NY, USA
Designed by Donald Ross

Teugega Country Club, a fixture in the rolling farmland just outside Rome, NY, embodies the spirit of enduring upstate golf. Opened in the early 1920s, the course is a testament to a classic parkland design, where mature trees both frame and challenge each hole. The course presents a strategic, rather than purely length-dependent, test, rewarding thoughtful approaches and astute course management, which favors a slight draw from the tee.
Designed by Devereux Emmet, known for his work at Garden City Golf Club and Congressional, Teugega has remained largely untouched, retaining the subtle nuances of its original routing. While it may not boast the national acclaim of some of Emmet’s other creations, the course has fostered a devoted local following, drawn to its understated charm and challenging greens.
A popular anecdote involves a local amateur making an ace on the difficult par-3 17th hole – using a persimmon wood, no less – a feat still celebrated in the clubhouse. After a round, members often gather to enjoy the club's renowned clam chowder, a recipe passed down through generations of chefs, and a staple of Teugega's convivial atmosphere.
Reviews
Teugega is the definition of old school Donald Ross. The greens have to be seen to be believed, they’re truly spectacular. Have lunch or dinner on the patio after the round overlooking the lake.
Nice little Donald Ross tucked away in upstate NY. Not too difficult but a ton of shots that need some creativity
