GOLF CLUB OF TENNESSEE
🇺🇸 Kingston Springs, TN, USA
Designed by Tom Fazio

The Golf Club of Tennessee is a modern testament to championship-caliber play carved from the rolling hills of Kingston Springs, a landscape more akin to rural Kentucky than the bustle of Nashville. Opened in 1991, the course presents a stern but fair test, characterized by generous fairways that belie the strategic complexities awaiting on approach. Fades are subtly rewarded here, as gentle doglegs often favor those who can shape the ball with a controlled right-to-left flight.
Designed by PGA Tour legend Mark McCumber and Hubert Green, the course blends seamlessly with the surrounding terrain. Bentgrass greens, known for their undulating surfaces and true roll, are the course's hallmark. While the club has not hosted major professional championships, it has been a respected stop for top amateur events and a proving ground for aspiring professionals, solidifying its reputation within the regional golf community.
The Golf Club of Tennessee cultivates an intimate atmosphere, with a membership drawn from the Nashville area’s business and entertainment elite. The vibe is understated and relaxed, a respite from the city's frenetic energy. Members often recount impromptu matches that stretch into twilight, followed by convivial gatherings in the clubhouse, where local bourbons and tall tales flow freely, cementing the club's position as a haven for both serious golf and relaxed camaraderie.
Reviews
Lower (Fazio): the front comes out swinging the first 4 holes as you battle tee shots that make you work it both ways and approach shots with some forced carries. After traversing the hills and coming into the valley on #7 you begin to settle into some normalcy with some great and challenging holes. The back 9 really steals the show for me. Upper (Gil Hanse): A course truly built for match play. Some of the most fun holes I have ever played. Forecaddies are a must as many tee shots are blind landing zones. As you approach the back 9 the views get really crazy. My favorite hole was the par 5 11th with the triple tier green.
What you would expect, there’s some good holes and there’s some really bad ones here. It’s worth playing bc conditions are always perfect but nothing to write home about. Service is good, not great.
Amazing course. One of the best in Tennessee. Great range, views and halfway house. Lower course (original) is tough. Amazing bent greens and some fun elevation changes. Tough but fair. Hit good shots and you’ll be rewarded but you can definitely be punished for misses. Upper course (new) is really fun and a nice change of pace 18. If you get a chance to play do it.
