TATANKA GOLF CLUB
🇺🇸 Niobrara, NE, USA
Designed by Paul Albanese

Tatanka Golf Club sits in the Niobrara River valley of north-central Nebraska, a region known for its rolling sandhills topography and scenic river corridors. Designed by Paul Albanese and opened in the early 2000s, the course occupies land that reflects the characteristic terrain of the Nebraska Sandhills—natural undulation, native grasses, and open prairie vistas. The routing takes advantage of the property's elevation changes and the visual drama of the surrounding landscape.
The design philosophy emphasizes a links-style approach suited to the windswept conditions and sandy soil common to this part of Nebraska. Wide fairways and large, contoured greens encourage ground-game options, while strategically placed bunkers and natural hazards frame playing corridors without excessive artificial shaping. The course layout allows golfers to experience the region's distinctive ecology and the interplay between the river valley environment and the upland prairie.
Tatanka serves both local membership and destination golfers drawn to Nebraska's emerging golf scene in the Sandhills region. The club's setting near the Niobrara River, an area recognized for its natural beauty and outdoor recreation, provides a backdrop that distinguishes the course from more conventional Midwestern layouts. The facility reflects the community character of Niobrara and the surrounding area, offering a golf experience shaped by the land's natural features rather than extensive earthmoving or imported landscaping.
Reviews
Tatanka is a big old ball park in Northern Nebraska. A ton of big hills and big greens. You can see for miles on end at the peaks. The course was too repeatable for me. I thought too many holes mimicked each other and left me feeling like they could have done more with its land. There were some fun holes and the greens ran nicely. Just not something I felt was worth the 3 hour drive from Omaha
