TALKING ROCK GOLF CLUB
🇺🇸 Prescott, AZ, USA
Designed by Jay Morrish
Talking Rock Golf Club sits in the high-desert terrain north of Prescott, Arizona, at an elevation above 5,000 feet. Designed by Jay Morrish and opened in the late 1990s, the course occupies rolling land punctuated by granite boulder outcroppings, native grasses, and scattered ponderosa pines. The routing takes advantage of the natural topography, with holes that move through arroyos and across ridgelines, offering views of the surrounding Bradshaw Mountains and the Prescott National Forest.
Morrish, who collaborated frequently with Tom Weiskopf and worked on several notable Arizona courses, designed Talking Rock to integrate with the rugged landscape rather than impose heavily upon it. The layout features wide fairways that accommodate the firm, fast conditions typical of high-desert golf, while greens are often elevated or tucked among rock formations. Strategic bunkering and natural waste areas frame many holes, rewarding thoughtful placement over pure distance.
The course serves a private membership and reflects the character of Prescott's mountain community—a mix of year-round residents and seasonal visitors drawn to the area's cooler climate and outdoor recreation. The high elevation and exposed setting mean conditions can vary significantly with weather, particularly wind, which adds a layer of challenge to club selection and shot shaping. Talking Rock remains a well-regarded example of Morrish's design work in Arizona's diverse golf landscape.
