SUTTON GOLF CLUB
🇮🇪 Sutton, Dublin, IE
Designed by Commander John Harris, Patrick Merrigan

Sutton Golf Club occupies a distinctive peninsula setting on the north side of Dublin Bay, with views across the water toward Howth Head and the Wicklow Mountains. The course was originally laid out by Commander John Harris in 1890, making it one of the older clubs in the Dublin area, and was later revised by Patrick Merrigan. The routing takes advantage of the narrow land formation, with holes playing along elevated ground that provides exposure to coastal winds and panoramic views of the surrounding seascape.
The layout features a mix of parkland and links characteristics, with some holes running through more sheltered, tree-lined sections while others occupy open, windswept terrain closer to the water. The terrain includes gentle elevation changes that add variety to the shot-making demands, and the conditioning reflects the club's commitment to maintaining playable surfaces year-round. Several holes offer strategic interest through their use of natural contours and well-placed bunkering.
Sutton serves as an accessible members' club for the local golfing community, with a traditional Irish clubhouse atmosphere. The course provides a solid test for players of varying abilities while remaining walkable and unpretentious. Its location within easy reach of central Dublin makes it a practical option for regular play, and the setting ensures that the coastal environment remains a defining feature of the experience. The club has maintained its place in Dublin's golf landscape through more than a century of operation.
