Several holes play along or near the Atlantic shoreline, where the trade winds become a significant factor in shot-making. The course serves both resort guests and local members, functioning as a year-round facility in Tenerife's mild climate. The volcanic soil and arid conditions create firm playing surfaces distinct from northern European parkland courses. Golf del Sur has hosted various professional and amateur events on the European developmental tours, taking advantage of the winter season when mainland Europe becomes less playable. The surrounding area has grown considerably since the course opened, with residential development and additional golf facilities now part of the broader San Miguel de Abona golf corridor.
