Alpine Valley Resort

Alpine Valley Resort's Summit and Meadow nines occupy rolling terrain in the Kettle Moraine region of southeastern Wisconsin, approximately forty miles southwest of Milwaukee. Arthur L. Johnson designed both courses, which opened in the mid-1960s as part of a larger resort development that includes skiing and other recreational amenities. Johnson, a Wisconsin-based architect active from the 1950s through the 1980s, designed numerous courses throughout the upper Midwest, often working with the natural topography to create varied and strategic layouts. The Summit nine plays across more elevated ground with greater changes in elevation, while the Meadow nine occupies somewhat gentler terrain, though both routing patterns reflect the glacially-formed landscape characteristic of this part of Wisconsin. The courses feature tree-lined fairways, natural water features, and greens that take advantage of the property's contours. Players typically combine the two nines for an eighteen-hole round, with the pairing offering contrasting challenges in terms of elevation and shot requirements.
