SUGARLOAF GOLF CLUB AND RESORT
🇺🇸 Carrabassett Valley, ME, USA
Designed by Kyle Phillips, Robert Trent Jones, Jr., Ross Forbes

Nestled high in Maine's western mountains, Sugarloaf Golf Club presents a challenging layout carved directly from the rugged landscape, a testament to the area's enduring spirit of adventure and untamed beauty. The mountain course provides unique elevation changes and vistas uncommon in New England golf, challenging players to manage both their game and the breathtaking scenery.
Designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr., the course reflects a modern sensibility, utilizing the natural contours of the land to create dramatic shot values and memorable holes. Wide fairways are juxtaposed with strategically placed bunkers and water hazards, placing a premium on thoughtful course management rather than pure power. Favoring shot makers who can navigate doglegs and account for the wind's swirling mountain currents, the course is also known for a collection of difficult par threes.
Sugarloaf fosters a community drawn to the outdoors, a blend of avid golfers and those who appreciate the area’s year-round recreational opportunities. The membership, while devoted, remains relatively unpretentious. While the course isn't widely considered among the nation’s elite, its stunning location and demanding layout offer a memorable and engaging experience for all who tee it up in Carrabassett Valley.
Reviews
Well, the course is built on a ski slope. If you do not bring at LEAST a dozen balls to the first tee you WILL regret it. you WILL lose a ball.
Just a very frustrating layout. Dog legs and hazards everywhere make driver a non-option on many holes. Very mediocre greens and iffy conditions. Go here for the views and the mountain air, some of the best photos you’ll see golfing in your life, but don’t expect championship golf
