ST ANDREWS LINKS
🏴 St. Andrews, Fife, Scotland
Designed by Donald Steel

Strathtyrum, the newest of the seven courses at the Home of Golf, reflects the evolving nature of the game while respecting its heritage. Carved into the undulating landscape just west of the iconic West Sands, the course diverts from a traditional links design with more modern mounding, larger tiered greens, and expansive playing corridors. Its subtle elevation changes and strategic bunkering create a challenging yet fair test for golfers of all levels.
Designed by Donald Steel in 1993, Strathtyrum provides a contrasting experience to its venerable neighbors. It invites bold drives with wide fairways and rewards creative approach play to its receptive greens. While devoid of the blind shots that define some of the older links, Strathtyrum demands thoughtful course management and precision in windy conditions. The long par 3 8th hole that extends to 205 yards to a challenging green is a true test of skill.
Though it hasn't hosted major professional events, Strathtyrum plays a crucial role within the St Andrews Links Trust's mission of providing accessible and enjoyable golf for all. A local's course and a popular option for visiting players, Strathtyrum has been known to foster a jovial atmosphere where players can enjoy a casual round and a pint afterwards at the nearby Swilcan Restaurant.
