Stone Water Golf Club occupies a former stone quarry site in Highland Heights, a suburb east of Cleveland in northeastern Ohio. The course, designed by Dr. Michael Hurdzan and Dana Fry, opened in the late 1990s and represents a distinctive reclamation project that transformed industrial land into a golf venue. The design team worked with dramatic elevation changes and exposed rock faces left from quarrying operations, creating a layout that differs markedly from typical parkland courses in the region.
The routing makes extensive use of the quarry's topography, with holes playing across, around, and through areas of significant grade change. Water features and rock outcroppings figure prominently in the playing corridors, and several holes incorporate the steep walls and ledges that remain from the site's previous use. The design balances these bold natural elements with strategic bunkering and green complexes that reward thoughtful course management.
Stone Water operates as a daily-fee facility, making the Hurdzan-Fry design accessible to public play in the Cleveland metropolitan area. The course has hosted various regional amateur competitions and qualifiers over the years.
