STONE EAGLE GOLF CLUB
🇺🇸 Palm Desert, CA, USA
Designed by Tom Doak

Stone Eagle occupies a dramatic site in the foothills above Palm Desert, set on land that once served as a private retreat. Tom Doak routed the course across rugged desert terrain characterized by steep elevation changes, rocky outcroppings, and natural arroyos. The property sits higher than the Coachella Valley floor, offering expansive views across the desert landscape toward distant mountain ranges. Doak preserved much of the native desert character, working with the existing topography rather than imposing a manufactured design on the land.
The routing makes full use of the property's natural movement, with holes that climb, fall, and traverse the hillsides. Several holes play along ridgelines or drop into valleys, creating a varied sequence of perspectives and shot requirements. The design emphasizes strategic options and ground game possibilities where the terrain allows, though the desert setting and elevation changes produce a mix of aerial and ground approaches. Fairway corridors are defined by native vegetation and rock formations rather than artificial framing.
Stone Eagle operates as a private club with a small membership, maintaining a low-profile presence consistent with its remote hillside location. The course does not host professional tournaments and has limited public visibility compared to resort courses in the Palm Springs area. Access remains restricted to members and their guests, contributing to the course's reputation as one of the more secluded high-end golf experiences in the California desert.
