Stockholms at Stockholms Golfklubb

Stockholms Golfklubb, established in 1904, occupies a wooded landscape in Danderyd, just north of central Stockholm. The club commissioned Harry S. Colt to design its championship course in the 1930s, making it one of the few Colt designs in Scandinavia and a significant example of his work outside the British Isles. The routing moves through mature pine and birch forest on gently rolling terrain characteristic of the Stockholm archipelago region, with the natural topography providing strategic interest without severe elevation changes.

Colt's design emphasizes strategic bunkering and green complexes that reward precision over distance. The layout features relatively narrow corridors through the trees, placing a premium on accuracy from the tee and approach play. Several holes incorporate natural rock outcroppings and the sandy, free-draining soil typical of the area. The greens display the subtle contouring and false fronts common to Colt's work, requiring careful study of approach angles and pin positions.

The course has hosted numerous Swedish national championships and international amateur events, establishing its reputation as one of Sweden's most respected championship tests. Stockholms Golfklubb maintains a traditional private club atmosphere, with membership drawn largely from the Stockholm business and professional community. The clubhouse and facilities reflect the club's long history, and the setting within the greater Stockholm area makes it one of the more accessible forest courses in the Swedish capital region while preserving a sense of seclusion within its wooded property.
