Steenberg Golf Club

Steenberg Golf Club occupies a historic wine estate in the Constantia Valley, roughly twenty kilometers south of Cape Town's city center. The property dates to 1682, making it one of the oldest farms in South Africa, and the golf course was designed by Peter Matkovich with Golf Data and opened in the mid-1990s. The layout sits beneath the eastern slopes of the Constantiaberg mountains, with the Steenberg peaks forming a dramatic backdrop throughout the round. The estate setting integrates vineyards, mature oaks, and Cape Dutch architecture into the golfing landscape. The course measures just over 6,000 meters from the championship tees and plays as a parkland design with significant elevation change. Several holes climb toward the mountain or drop back toward the valley floor, and water features appear on multiple holes, including ponds and streams that influence play on both nines. The routing takes advantage of natural contours and established vegetation, with fairways framed by trees and views extending across the valley toward False Bay in the distance. Steenberg functions as both a resort amenity and a members' club, with the estate including a hotel, spa, and working winery. The clubhouse and facilities reflect the Cape Winelands character, and the course has hosted regional amateur competitions.
