PGA Catalunya Resort

The Stadium Course at PGA Catalunya Resort opened in 1999 as the work of European Golf Design, the design arm of the European Tour. Located in Caldes de Malavella in Catalonia, roughly equidistant between Barcelona and the Costa Brava, the course occupies gently rolling terrain characterized by cork oak and pine forest. The routing takes advantage of natural elevation changes to create strategic variety, with fairways that move through wooded corridors and across more open expanses where the Mediterranean landscape asserts itself. The design emphasizes width off the tee but demands precision on approaches to greens that feature significant contouring and are often protected by water hazards and deep bunkering. Several holes play along or across lakes that were integrated into the property's natural drainage patterns. The par-three 13th, which plays over water to an island green, and the closing stretch from the 16th onward present a demanding finish that has tested professionals in tournament play. PGA Catalunya has hosted multiple European Tour events, including the Spanish Open on several occasions in the 2000s, and continues to serve as a venue for professional and elite amateur competitions. The facility operates as a resort with an accompanying Tour Course, and the Stadium layout reflects its dual purpose as both a championship test and a destination course for traveling golfers. The club attracts an international membership and visitor base drawn to the combination of tournament pedigree and the broader appeal of Catalonia's golf corridor.
