SPLIT ROCK GOLF CLUB
🇺🇸 Orient, OH, USA
Designed by Dana Fry, Dr. Michael Hurdzan

Split Rock Golf Club sits in rural Pickaway County, south of Columbus in central Ohio. Designed by the team of Dr. Michael Hurdzan and Dana Fry and opened in 2000, the course occupies rolling farmland that the architects shaped into a layout featuring significant elevation changes and strategic bunkering. The design reflects Hurdzan and Fry's characteristic approach of working with natural landforms while creating bold visual features and varied shot values.
The course takes its name from the property's glacial geology and the large rock formations that appear throughout the routing. Water comes into play on several holes, and the design incorporates both open, links-influenced stretches and more enclosed, tree-lined corridors. The layout measures over 7,000 yards from the championship tees, though multiple tee boxes accommodate different skill levels. Hurdzan, an Ohio native and agronomist by training, has designed numerous courses in the state, and Split Rock represents his collaborative work with Fry during a productive period in their partnership.
Split Rock operates as a public facility, making the Hurdzan-Fry design accessible to daily-fee players in the Columbus region. The course has hosted regional amateur competitions and serves as a tournament venue for area golf associations. The clubhouse and practice facilities support both casual rounds and organized events, typical of modern public golf complexes built during the late 1990s development boom in American golf.
Reviews
Not much to say. Just your basic muni. Has some good holes, has some bad holes, but if you don’t have too high of expectations you can play a fun match play round against your friend.
