Spencer at Spencer Golf & Country Club

Spencer Golf & Country Club is an 18-hole private facility in northwest Iowa, designed by David Gill. The course occupies rolling prairie terrain characteristic of the region, where the landscape transitions between agricultural land and the natural topography of the Little Sioux River valley. Gill, a regional architect active in the upper Midwest during the mid-20th century, routed the course to work with the existing land forms rather than impose dramatic earthwork on the site.

The layout features tree-lined fairways and modest elevation changes that provide strategic interest without overwhelming the player. Water comes into play on several holes, typically in the form of ponds or creek corridors that reflect the area's drainage patterns. The greens are moderately sized and contoured to reward accurate approach play while remaining accessible to members of varying skill levels.

Spencer Golf & Country Club serves as the primary private golf facility for Spencer and the surrounding communities in Clay County. The club maintains traditional country club amenities and hosts member competitions throughout the season.
