SOUTHVIEW COUNTRY CLUB
🇺🇸 West St. Paul, MN, USA
Designed by Gerry Pirkl, William Langford

Southview Country Club sits in West St. Paul, a southern suburb of the Twin Cities, on rolling terrain that characterizes much of the Mississippi River valley region. The course was originally designed by William Langford, a prolific Midwestern architect whose career spanned the 1920s and 1930s. Langford, often working with Theodore Moreau, created numerous courses throughout Minnesota and the upper Midwest, bringing strategic design principles influenced by the Golden Age to regional clubs. Gerry Pirkl, a Minnesota-based architect active in later decades, contributed renovation work that updated the layout while respecting the original routing.
The course plays across moderately rolling land with mature tree corridors framing fairways. The property features elevation changes typical of the area's glacial topography, creating natural movement in the holes and variety in approach shots. Langford's designs generally emphasized strategic bunkering and green contours that reward thoughtful play, and these characteristics remain evident in the layout's structure.
Southview functions as a traditional private country club serving the West St. Paul community. The club maintains a full calendar of member events and provides a social hub beyond golf, with dining and family programming typical of established Midwestern clubs. The course offers a straightforward test of golf suited to a range of abilities, with enough length and challenge to engage accomplished players while remaining accessible to the broader membership.
Reviews
A totally fine private. There is some interesting land on the front, and would benefit (and has previously) with some tree management. Fun place but won’t blow your socks off
