SOUTHERN OAKS GOLF COURSE
🇺🇸 Easley, SC, USA
Designed by William B. Lewis

Southern Oaks, nestled in the rolling hills near Wyatt Oaks Court, stands as a testament to understated Southern golf. Born from the post-war boom, the course reflects a mid-century parkland design, where tree-lined fairways demand strategic play over sheer distance. The subtle doglegs favor a controlled draw, while its crowned greens will reward deft approach shots and put a premium on getting the ball below the hole.
Originally conceived by local architect, George Cobb, Southern Oaks eschews grandiosity for a comfortable, player-friendly experience. While it has not hosted national championships, Southern Oaks’ annual club championship is a fiercely contested affair, steeped in local lore and tradition. The story goes that Cobb, a notorious night owl, designed the par-3 seventh hole after a particularly late poker game with some of the founding members – its deceptively simple design belying a subtle cunning.
Southern Oaks is unranked on any major lists, but holds a special place in the hearts of its membership. It is known in the area for the tight-knit community, and old-fashioned charm where members often settle bets over a plate of the club's famed fried green tomatoes on the porch following a round.
