South Hills at South Hills Country Club

South Hills Country Club, tucked into the rolling hills south of Pittsburgh, represents a classic expression of early 20th-century golf design, imbued with a distinctly local character.

Designed by Emil Loeffler, Sr., in the late 1920s, the course meanders through mature woodlands and subtly contoured terrain, presenting a challenging, strategic test. While not exceptionally long, South Hills demands thoughtful shot placement and a deft touch around the greens, favoring players who can navigate its tree-lined fairways and undulating surfaces. A unique aspect is its strong and tenured membership, many of whom have learned and played the game at South Hills for decades, fostering a tight-knit and highly competitive golfing community.

While South Hills hasn't hosted major national championships, it holds a significant place in the region's amateur golf scene. The Club has a long standing reputation as a challenging and very walkable golf course. South Hills is regarded as one of the more exclusive country clubs in the Pittsburgh region.

Adding to its charm, the halfway house is locally famous for its "Sloppy Joe," a member-created recipe that has become a beloved tradition, enjoyed by members and guests alike. This culinary quirk reflects the club's warm, convivial atmosphere, creating a unique and memorable experience beyond the golf itself.
