South at Lake Jovita Golf & Country Club

Lake Jovita Golf & Country Club's South Course opened in 2001 as the second of two championship layouts at this facility in Dade City, located in the rolling terrain of Pasco County north of Tampa. Designed by Kurt Sandness in collaboration with PGA Tour professional Tom Lehman, the course takes advantage of the property's natural elevation changes—unusual for Florida—with fairways that move through stands of oak, pine, and cypress. The routing incorporates several natural ravines and wetland areas that influence strategy on multiple holes.

The South Course plays as the more demanding of Lake Jovita's two layouts, with tighter driving corridors and more pronounced elevation shifts than typically found in peninsular Florida. Water comes into play on roughly half the holes, and the green complexes feature significant contour and are often elevated or protected by deep bunkering. The design emphasizes accuracy over distance, rewarding players who can shape shots and manage the transitions between uphill and downhill lies.

Lake Jovita has hosted various regional amateur championships and qualifiers over the years, drawing competitive fields to both courses. The club operates as a semi-private facility with an active membership and public access, offering a full clubhouse with dining and practice facilities. The South Course remains a notable example of Sandness's work in Florida, showcasing how thoughtful routing can maximize the strategic interest of terrain that deviates from the state's typically flat landscape.
