DES MOINES GOLF & COUNTRY CLUB
🇺🇸 West Des Moines, IA, USA
Designed by Pete Dye

South at Des Moines Golf & Country Club is hallowed ground, steeped in the tradition of Iowan golf and the site of Zach Johnson's formative years. Carved into the rolling parkland of West Des Moines, this classic layout presents a traditional test, favoring strategic play over sheer power. The fairways offer a generous target, but approach shots demand accuracy to navigate the subtly contoured greens, true to the Golden Age design of Tom Bendelow.
Pete Dye's masterful update to the South Course created a more challenging experience. The remodel added the modern Dye sensibilities and unique undulations, creating an enjoyable and demanding course.
Des Moines Golf & Country Club hosted the 2017 Solheim Cup, with the Americans defeating the Europeans 16 1/2 - 11 1/2. Though not consistently in the national spotlight, the South Course holds a respected place in the region, revered by its tight-knit membership, who famously rally around Hawkeye and Cyclone rivalries with equal fervor, united by their love of the game. The South course is a pillar of golf in Iowa.
