CANLUBANG GOLF AND COUNTRY CLUB NORTH
🇵🇭 Canlubang, Laguna, PH
Designed by Robert Trent Jones, Robert Trent Jones, Jr.
Canlubang Golf and Country Club's South Course represents a collaboration between Robert Trent Jones and Robert Trent Jones Jr., part of a 36-hole facility located in Laguna province, roughly an hour south of Manila. The Jones family designed both courses at Canlubang during the 1960s, establishing what became one of the Philippines' most prominent golf destinations. The South Course occupies relatively flat terrain typical of the Laguna lowlands, with strategic bunkering and water hazards providing the primary defenses rather than dramatic elevation changes.
The layout features the signature Jones design principles of the era: large, contoured greens that reward precise approach play, strategically placed bunkers that define landing areas, and water coming into play on several holes. The course winds through a landscape of tropical vegetation, with palm trees and native flora framing many holes. The flat topography allows for generous fairway corridors, but the premium remains on accurate iron play to greens protected by deep bunkers and occasional water features.
Canlubang has hosted numerous Philippine national championships and professional events over the decades, serving as a regular venue for the country's major amateur and professional competitions. The club maintains a traditional membership structure and operates as a private country club with full recreational facilities. Both the North and South courses remain active in Philippine golf, though the South Course is generally considered the more demanding test of the two layouts.
