Antelope Hills Golf Course
About this course
The South Course at Antelope Hills Golf Course opened in 1956 and was designed by Gary Panks, a regional architect who worked extensively throughout the Southwest during the mid-twentieth century. Located in Prescott, Arizona, at approximately 5,000 feet elevation, the course occupies rolling high-desert terrain characterized by ponderosa pines, junipers, and native grasses. The elevation provides cooler temperatures than lower-desert Arizona courses and creates a distinct mountain-golf atmosphere within the Prescott National Forest setting. The routing takes advantage of the natural topography, with fairways that move through valleys and over ridges. Elevation changes throughout the round affect club selection and shot strategy, while the tree-lined corridors require accuracy from the tee. The course features traditional design elements typical of its era, including straightforward green complexes and strategic bunkering that rewards position play. Water comes into play on several holes, adding variety to the predominantly tree-defined layout. Antelope Hills operates as a municipal facility and has served the Prescott golf community for nearly seven decades. The South Course is part of a 36-hole complex that includes the North Course, which was added later. The facility provides accessible public golf in a mountain setting that contrasts with the desert courses found elsewhere in Arizona. The combination of mature trees, elevation changes, and high-country climate gives the course a character distinct from typical Southwestern layouts.
