OMNI TUCSON NATIONAL RESORT
🇺🇸 Tucson, AZ, USA
Designed by Tom Lehman

The Sonoran Course at Omni Tucson National Resort represents Tom Lehman's contribution to the property's golf offerings in the Tucson area. Lehman, a major championship winner and longtime PGA Tour professional, brought his competitive playing experience to the design process. The course occupies terrain in the northern reaches of Tucson, where the Sonoran Desert landscape provides the natural setting and aesthetic character that defines the routing.
The layout works through rolling desert topography characterized by saguaro cacti, palo verde trees, and native vegetation typical of southern Arizona. Elevation changes and natural washes factor into the strategic design, requiring players to navigate both the desert environment and the contours of the land. The course presents a contrast to the resort's older Catalina layout, offering a more modern interpretation of desert golf.
Omni Tucson National has a long history as a tournament venue, having hosted PGA Tour events for decades, though those competitions were played on the Catalina Course rather than the Sonoran. The resort serves both destination golfers visiting the Tucson area and local players, with the Sonoran providing an alternative experience on the property. The course reflects contemporary desert design principles while accommodating the resort's varied clientele, from casual visitors to more accomplished players seeking strategic interest in a desert setting.
